Using Motivational Interviewing Strategies to Help Clients Resolve Ambivalence and Make Positive Change

 

This seminar is intended to introduce attendees to Motivational Interviewing techniques and the stages of change model. Members in attendance will learn about core MI techniques and practice using these skills to analyze how to best help their clients. The program will review the stages of change model and teach strategies for assessing a client's readiness for change. It will also provide examples for how to help clients resolve ambivalence and how to use MI techniques to effectively work with difficult clients.   This seminar will also address key issues when working with clients with substance abuse.

Dr. Alisa Robinson is a licensed clinical psychologist with over fifteen years of experience treating individuals throughout the lifespan. She currently works as the Clinical Director at Southern California Recovery Centers. Dr. Robinson received her PhD from the University of Southern California and studied Cognitive Science at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Robinson has trained doctoral and master’s level psychology students and is an adjunct professor at Argosy University. Dr. Robinson is the author of “The Loneliness Cure” and has written articles on how loneliness can affect leaders and companies. Dr. Robinson specializes in addiction and recovery issues, relationships, anxiety, family issues, brain & behavior, and celebrity psychology. She has extensive experience in neuropsychological testing and personality assessment. Dr. Robinson has given day-long training seminars on various topics, including psychological diagnosis and treatment and business psychology. Dr. Robinson works as a consultant in the field of Organizational Development. In this capacity she helps companies increase their organizational effectiveness, facilitates teambuilding, improves hiring processes and provides executive coaching.

This course is provided by the San Diego Chapter of CAMFT, PCE #58. This course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of Continuing Education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Science.
