San Diego Chapter Scholarship program for Pre-Licensed members

Mission and Vision:

The purpose of the San Diego CAMFT chapter scholarships is to promote pre-licensed members in the pursuit of their education and/or licensure.

Awards shall be a one-time payment of $250.

There will be three awards granted per year (provided funding available).

 

Type of Scholarships:

Betty Jackson Scholarship Award – ‘Needs’ Based

These awards will be granted to the applicant who demonstrates a need for the funds in order to further their pursuit of a goal related to their degree, i.e. assistance is needed to pay exam fees, payment for exam study preparation, or funding is needed for a research project.

Dr. Steve Koh Scholarship Award – ‘Service’ Based

These awards will be granted to the applicant  who demonstrates the desire to develop a service project through the local chapter to support fellow pre-licensed members in the community. Examples of service projects include but not limited to: starting a Chapter 3000 Club, starting a Meet Up, creating a Marketing platform using social media.

Eligibility:

1.      Applicant must be a member of the local chapter at time of application and award (and thus a member of State CAMFT) – as verified by the Membership Chairperson.
2.      Applicant must be a pre-license member.
 Calendar for submission and nomination of Applications:

#1. April – Dr. Steve Koh Award - All applications must be received by April 30th.

May – Award winner announced by May 31st.

#2. September – Betty Jackson Award - All applications must be received by September 30th.

October – Award winner announced by October 31st.

 #3. September – Dr. Steve Koh Award - All applications must be received by September 30th.

October – Award winner announced by October 31st.

Application Process:

1.      Applicants will choose the most suitable award – only one application will be accepted from each individual per year.
2.      Applicants will submit a completed application form Application, a current CV, and an essay.
a.       Essays will include: a brief personal summary of the applicant, what activities they have engaged in that are relevant to their field of study, what plans they have for their career after licensure, why they need the funds and how they would use the award funds (the need and use of funds would be specific to the type of scholarship applied for as described above).
b.      Essays will be no more than three pages, double spaced. Essays submitted that are more than this will be disqualified.
3. Submit all documents to the following: communications@camft-sandiego.org with subject "Scholarships".

 Responsibilities of Award winner:.

All scholarship awards carry with them a responsibility to the chapter; as therapists, it’s part of our ethics to give back to the community. All recipients will agree to the following:

1.      Attend and help out at two San Diego Chapter events over the next 6 months following receipt of award – one of which would be a community event.
2.      Recipient will submit to the Chapter a summary of benefits gained by receiving the award no later than 6 months after receipt of award.
a.       The summary will be no more than two pages long.
3. Recipient agrees to allow the San Diego Chapter to publish their image and limited biographical information for purposes of advertising and supporting the Chapter and it's programs.
